China is prepared to celebrate the lunar New Year, also called Spring Festival on Jan. 28 this year.

It is the Year of the Rooster. The Chinese zodiac (sheng xiao) assigns one of 12 animals to each year. That means people who are born in the years 1921,1933,1945,1957,1969,1981,1993,2005 and 2017 are born in the Year of the Rooster.

To celebrate the new year, it is tradition for Chinese people to decorate their homes with fresh plants, new year couplets, paper cuttings, paper foldings of  the fu character or the zodiac animals.
